* FSOG promotes classical singing. We suggest that any selection you have chosen from the theatre repertoire be lyrical in nature. No belting will be allowed as it can damage your young voice.

  • Age-appropriate repertoire is suggested. High School Singers should not sing extensive arias from major operatic works. Major arias from Grand Opera will not be approved for high school repertoire.
  • It is not necessary to sing an operatic aria, but we would request that the selection be from standard vocal literature.
  • All other arias must be approved by competition committee.
  • Arias, such as a selection from Twenty-Four Italian Arias (Hal Leonard), would be a good challenge. Other literatures from which you can make your selections are:
  • Joan Boytim’s First Book Series, et. al.
  • Folk Songs for Solo Singers, ed. Jay Althouse
  • Expressive Singing Anthology (Van Christy, ed.)
  • Pathways of Song
  • Anthology of Italian Song of the 17th and 18th Centuries
  • Classic Italian Songs for School and Studio
  • Italian Arias of the Baroque and Classical Period the La Flora Collection
  • You choose the first selection. The judges will indicate your next selection.
